Their stacked pancakes - three piled on top of each other - are served with cinnamon crunch, maple syrup and whipped cream as standard. You can then add banana, Nutella and salted caramel; or fresh berries, compote and frosting."

"This Icelandic inspired coffee house and creative space is one of the newest additions to The Northern Quarter, and is rapidly becoming one of the most popular. The minimal design, open brickwork, old school graffitied tables and atmospheric lighting really do make you feel as though you are hiding from the cold somewhere in downtown Reykjavik. These guys know how to make the perfect coffee, and are accommodating if you require something specific – just ask."

Top 10 Coolest Indie Coffee Shops in Manchester
"If you’re on the look out for fresh artisan coffee in minimalist, Nordic-inspired surroundings, then stark, hipster hangout Takk is probably the place for you. Undoubtedly a NQ favourite, the coffee at Takk is just as good as the atmosphere, serving ‘North Projekt’ – a Bristol-roasted Nordic Style espresso that forms the basis of all their drinks. It’s definitely a brew to keep the mind sharp, but I heard they feature regular guest espresso too!"

Top 10 budget restaurants, bars and cafes in Manchester
"Tucked down a side street in the Northern Quarter, This & That is one of the area's original curry cafes, where you can pick-up a filling "rice 'n' three" (choices of curry) for a few quid. It's a no-frills joint, but the food is fresh, homemade and uses whole spices to give the dishes the kind of wallop of flavour that you wouldn't normally expect at a sub-£5 price. The various lamb curries usually deliver a good savoury gravy and a reasonable amount of tasty meat, but, for me, its the veggie curries – particularly the chana masala, the daals and the spinach curry – that really sing with flavour."

The Cheapest And Best Places To Eat In Manchester City Centre
"A Manchester institution since the 80s, This & That is one of the city’s favourite spots for good Indian food, serving an ever-changing menu of homemade curries for guests to enjoy. And it’s a seriously cheap spot, too, with curries costing a maximum of £6!. If you’re a veggie, even better, with prices of just £4.50 for a serving of rice with three different curries."

"The terms ‘Manchester institution’ and ‘hidden gem’ are bandied about a lot, often undeservingly. This place is worthy of both descriptions. Serving authentic Indian curries, the classic This & That order is a “rice and three” - your choice of three curries heaped on a bed of rice for around a fiver."
